Saturday afternoon before their 4 PM start against the Toronto Marlies, the Sabres recalled forward Brett Murray from Rochester.
Murray has yet to record a point in the Amerks’ first two games, but the hulking forward has earned a look since the prospects tournament and preseason.

Don’t be surprised to find Murray as a net-front presence on a power play unit. His frame and reach in the dirty areas with the man advantage and at 5-on-5 will primarily be what make him successful at the NHL level.
Even if he isn’t producing, he can still be effective creating chaos and broken plays that his teammates can clean up around him. Opposing defenses are going to have their hands full trying to move him from out front.
Recalling Murray also gives more reps for players like JJ Peterka and Jack Quinn instead of calling them up, then likely sending them back down. Letting those two get consistent playing time and games under their belt can only help in their development.
