Sabres vs Islanders Postponed Due to NHL COVID-19 Protocol

The NHL announced this morning that Tuesday night’s scheduled matchup between the Sabres and Islanders has been postponed due to the League’s COVID-19 Protocol.

Following Buffalo’s two games series with New Jersey this weekend, the Devils placed ten players on the COVID-19 list on Monday. Of those on the list, the following players all took the ice in both games against the Sabres this past weekend: Andres Johnsson, Janne Kuokkanen, Michael McLeod and Pavel Zacha.

Potentially the most concerning aspect: Devils’ forward, Kyle Palmieri, suited up for the game on Saturday, but was placed on the COVID-19 list on Sunday.

In a conversation with John Vogl of the Buffalo news, a source added the Sabres are furious about this situation:

In the league’s official release, the NHL noted that due to weather conditions on Monday, the Sabres altered their travel plans. Rather than flying to New York on Monday like originally planned, the team would head there on Tuesday morning, the day of the game. This schedule change added conflict to the NHL’s contact-tracing process and overall COVID-19 protocol.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation for test results and when a game could potentially be re-scheduled.
