Sabres recall C.J. Smith

After forward Remi Elie cleared waivers and was assigned to the Rochester Americans, it was expected that the Buffalo Sabres would call up a forward from their farm team in the American Hockey League. That move came Monday morning as left winger C.J. Smith was brought up to Buffalo for the second time this season.

In his last stint in Buffalo, Smith played four games and netted one goal. That goal came against the New Jersey Devils, in which was probably his best game in the NHL.

Smith has been one of Rochester’s go-to guys since signing with Buffalo at the conclusion of his season for UMass-Lowell in 2017. Smith is at a point per-game pace in Rochester as he has put up 41 points through 41 games this season. Through two seasons in Rochester, Smith has 85 points in 98 games.

The Sabres haven’t had practice yet, so it isn’t known if Smith will dress for Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.
