Report: Sabres Have Verbal Agreement on O’Reilly Trade

After the Sabres made their second trade of the summer, acquiring Conor Sheary and Matt Hunwick from the Penguins, Jeremy White has reported that the Sabres have a verbal agreement to trade Ryan O’Reilly to an unconfirmed team, but White believes the St. Louis Blues are the team to watch.

The likely reason behind the trade being on hold is Ryan O’Reilly is due his bonus on July 1st. With a likely increase on their return, the Sabres are smart to hold off on the trade until they pay the bonus.

Just this morning Darren Dreger reported the price on ROR to be a top prospect, a 1st round pick, and another pick. While the Sabres could also be looking for a roster player in return, the St. Louis Blues have a nice cupboard of prospects to offer. Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas lead the prospect pool with Klim Kostin, Vince Dunn, and Tage Thompson not far behind. If the Sabres do make a trade with the Blues, they will have no shortage of choice when it comes to prospects.

Colton Parayko could be a target but I wouldn’t bet on it happening.
