Sabres Acquire Beaulieu

The Buffalo Sabres have traded the 68th overall pick in this years entry draft to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defensemen Nathan Beaulieu.

The young defenseman played in 74 games last year in Montreal and totalled 28 points and a +8 rating. Beaulieu is a smooth-skating defenseman who has great instincts from the back end and has great puck-moving ability.  Beaulieu will most likely slot in the top 4 and challenge for second unit PP minutes. Beaulieu will be excited to be mentored by new head coach Phil Housley who has a lot to teach to the plethora of young D on the Sabres roster.

This move comes in the wake of the roster freeze and seems like a steal from the Sabres perspective. By only dealing the 68th overall pick the Sabres still remain with another 3rd rounder and were able to address a need with a young former first round pick in Beaulieu.
