Sabres Sign College Free Agent CJ Smith

Buffalo made their first splash in the college free agent market, signing UMass-Lowell leading scorer CJ Smith to an entry level contract. Smith registered 51 points in 41 games for the River Hawks this season.

Smith is described as a shifty skater with a great hockey IQ, traits that are surely needed in the Sabres organization.

It will be interesting to see if the Sabres give Smith a shot on the main roster in any of the 5 remaining games. With their chance at the playoffs gone it would make sense to look at what we have.

The River Hawks finished 27-11-3 and lost last Sunday to fellow Sabres prospect Cal Petersen’s Notre Dame in the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament.
