RECAP:

The Sabres are coming off of their worst outings all season after a terrible loss to the Flyers on Tuesday night. Jack Eichel is on an 11 game point streak and he is just one point away from tying Mikael Granlund’s leading point streak this season.

The Sabres shut down Sergei Bobrovsky’s 3 game shutout streak early. Evan Rodrigues ripped a shot past Bob to put Buffalo up 1-0. Nic Deslauriers finally notched his 1st point of the season. I’ve really liked Rodrigues’ play since his call up and it looks like he’s a shoe in to make the team out of camp next year. Which means that he may be pushing either Zemgus Girgensons or Johan Larsson out the door.

Shortly after Buffalo took an early lead, David Savard blasted the puck past Lehner to tie the game at 1.

Tyler Ennis took a delay of game penalty and the Jackets would get their 1st power play of the night. Alex Wennberg made a great pass to Nick Foligno and Marcus’ big brother made a perfect deflection to beat Robin Lehner and now the Blue Jackets would have a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd period.

No this isn’t a typo, Josh Gorges scored a goal. Eichel was planted in front of the net and Gorges point shot beat Bobrovsky for his 1st goal of the season. Gorges has been  okay lately, he certainly has done better than he did in the beginning of the season.

Robin Lehner made a huge save on a shorthanded breakaway from Boone Jenner to keep the game tied at 2.

The Sabres took another penalty and the 29th ranked penalty kill gave up another power play goal. Brandon Saad was screening Robin Lehner and Sam Gagner beat Lehner short side to give the Jackets the 3-2 lead. The Jackets would keep their 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.

Rasmus Ristolainen ripped the puck on net and it bounced off of Bobrovsky and into the net to even up the game at 3. With that goal Risto has now matched his point production from last year with 41 points. That was Ristolainen’s 5th goal on the season.

With just about 5 minutes to go in regulation, the Sabres lost a defensive zone faceoff and then Boone Jenner dangled his way around Robin Lehner and put the puck in the empty net to put the Jackets up 4-3. Jenner’s goal would seal the deal for the Jackets and would put an end to Jack Eichel’s 11 game point streak. The Sabres will get a chance to redeem themselves tomorrow night against Columbus.

And sorry to break it to you all but per SportsClubStats.Com, the Sabres now have a 0.00% chance to make the playoffs…
