The Sabres once again got off to a good start by scoring the first goal. Ryan O’Reilly intercepted Jaccob Slavin’s pass and he gave the puck to Carrier who then tapped it into the net to make it 1-0 Buffalo.

The Sabres would be able to hold onto their lead for the rest of the first period but early in the 2nd period, Jeff Skinner shot the puck on a bad angle and it somehow was able to beat Anders Nilsson.

Just about a minute later, Jeff Skinner was able to walk in and beat Nilsson low stick side to give the Canes a 2-1 lead.

A few minutes after Skinner’s 2nd goal of the evening, Nilsson let out a rebound right to Brock McGinn who then gave the Hurricanes a 3-1 lead. Nilsson may have given up another rough goal but he looked much better the rest of the game.

Halfway through the 2nd frame, Cam Ward mishandled the puck behind the net and Brian Gionta took advantage and was able to score Buffalo’s 1st short handed goal of the season. The Sabres and the Columbus Blue Jackets are the only 2 teams in the NHL who have yet to allow a short handed goal this season.

Victor Rask and Brock McGinn both scored early in the 3rd period to seal the deal for the Canes.

Overall this was a very awful performance by the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

The Sabres will face the Dallas Stars on Monday afternoon.
