RECAP:
Buffalo came off of a huge 4-3 comeback win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon and looked to continue their good play Tuesday night against the Flyers.
Nic Deslauriers and Brandon Manning had a fight early in the game and D-Lo easily won this one.
The Sabres were moving the puck very well on the powerplay early in the 2nd period and Sam Reinhart buried the pass from Ristolainen to give Buffalo the 1-0 lead.
Just a few minutes later Reinhart had another great opportunity to score, Jack Eichel gave Reinhart a great pass but Sam missed the wide open net.
A few minutes later Taylor Fedun put the puck on net and Steve Mason kicked the rebound out to William Carrier and he scored to make it a 2-0 game.
Late in the 2nd period Evander Kane beat Steve Mason high glove after the puck deflected off of the Flyers defenseman from Sam Reinhart’s shot. Evander Kane has been on fire as of late. 9 of his 10 goals this season have come at even strength.
Buffalo would head into the 3rd period with a 3-0 lead. The last time the Sabres face the Flyers the Sabres had a 3-0 lead and ended up losing.
The Sabres would have the 3-0 lead for a majority of the 3rd period but Brayden Schenn scored his 13th goal of the season on the powerplay to foil the shutout of Anders Nilsson.
But the Sabres would add the icing on the cake as Sam Reinhart very unselfishly fed the puck to Marcus Foligno who then shot the puck into the empty Flyers net to give Buffalo the 4-1 win. Foligno has 3 goals in his last 3 games and is having arguably his best season of his career.
Anders Nilsson was sharp again tonight as he made 39 saves on 40 shots. It is pretty safe to say that Nilsson should be starting more games. He has been very good all season with the exception of a couple games. He should get the start next game.
Buffalo has gotten 7 of 8 possible points in their last 4 games and they face the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow night. The Sabres are one point back of the Lightning and they will pass them in the standings if they can win that game.
